Aber dies sollte man nicht vergessen...
- The Joe Weider Chair in Exercise Nutrition (UWH3)
School of Kinesiology
Host: Dr. Peter Lemon, Professor
In the summer of 1997, The Joe Weider Foundation provided funding to establish an exercise nutrition research chair in The University of Western Ontario's Faculty of Health Sciences. Mr. Joe Weider is well known internationally for his contributions to the development of the sport of bodybuilding and as the owner of a largely successful fitness, health products, and magazine empire located in Los Angles, California. Dr. Peter W.R. Lemon of Ohio's Kent State University accepted this new position and arrived at Western in January 1998. Dr. Lemon has studied the interactions between nutrition and exercise for more than 20 years. Most of his work has concentrated on macronutrient needs (especially protein) and the role they play in muscle growth.
The program will consist of a demonstration of (a) the effects of exercise on nutrient requirements, (b) the effects of food supplements on exercise capacity, and (c) the various physiological/ nutritional measurements used, including blood pressure, heart rate/rhythm, body fluid compartments, body composition, exercise capacity, muscle strength/size, nutrient analysis of diet, etc. The intent of this exercise will be to demonstrate how nutritionists determine dietary needs of physically active individuals and how we determine whether specific supplementation can enhance exercise performance. The following web site: www.gssiweb.com might be appropriate as a link. It is an educational site sponsored by Quaker Oats (makers of Gatorade) which contains interesting sports nutrition info.
