Yohimbe
Yohimbe is a popular herb coming originally from South Africa and known worldwide as an excellent aphrodisiac. In fact it is the inner bark of the tropical West African tree Corynanthe Yohimbe. For centuries, folks from these regions have used the crude bark as a tonic to enhance sexual prowess and pleasure.
Yohimbe does not only improve sexual functioning, it has also shown to elevate mood, reduce anxiety and depression, prevent heart attacks, helps building muscles, and has many other positive effect on overall health.
Yohimbe also increases fatty acid mobilization, it is decreasing fat synthesis and working as a great anti-depressant, especially when used in a small dosage. Yohimbe is a nootropic drug, which makes people mentally more active.
Usually, it is used with other herbs like ginseng and saw palmetto to boost its power. Yohimbe should not be used with food or drinks containing tyramines, like cheese, chocolate, beer or nuts. A rise in blood pressure caused by yohimbe could stop the body from removing tyramines from these foods leading to severe side effects. Yohimbe in high doses can be hallucinogenic and increase blood pressure. For this reason, it is important not to exceed the recommended dosage for Yohimbe.
Safe doses of Yohimbe vary from 18mg to 100mg per day and should be divided into three or four doses. Some studies report that a single 100mg dose was not effective. It is recommended, that a healthcare provider determines individual Yohimbe doses. Research has shown that Yohimbe is generally tolerated well when used as recommended and the side effects are rare.
