Don't get it twisted, Trey ain't bragging or boasting and he's not talking shit about anyone or anything. In fact Trey isn't saying much at all. He's busting his ass, day in and day out, and in less than five weeks time, he's excited to let his physique do the talking.
There's tons of expectations! After all, Trey's been on all the posters and in all the magazines. He's even got a very large contact with BSN, one of the largest supplement companies in the world. At only 24 years of age, he's already experienced victory, defeat, and everything in between. Placing 4th in the Super Heavyweight class at the 2008 NPC Nationals should have been a huge accomplishment for a (then) 23-year old, but it's not enough for Trey. In his mind, anything less than first is failure and disappointment. So Trey headed back to Smyrna, Georgia and changed his life around. He cut out all the extraneous stuff; if it isn't making him better, he doesn't need it. Trey moved back home with his parents and now mom's cooking his sweet potatoes. He teamed up with master guru Hany Rambod to guide his diet. And Trey extended his contract with BSN to make sure he has only the best supplements fueling his body.
This past week, I had the pleasure of following Dave around with a video camera as he chronicled about 36 hours in the life of Trey Brewer. This kicks off Rx Muscle's coverage of the 2009 NPC Nationals, sponsored by BSN. With this relationship in place, who better to focus on than "The Phenom" himself? We arrived in Atlanta at about 8am on Thursday morning after working through the night. As usual, Dave and I had a sleepless mission upon us but that seems to be status quo around contest time. We ended our super long day at 11pm as Trey finished up his final cardio session. The next day we caught a few more snippets of his daily rituals and then headed off to the airport. I won't give away the details of what happened in between; however, I will just say that Trey is one of the most focused and determined bodybuilders I've ever witnessed.
Dave interviewed friends, family, and regular people around town that know and see Trey regularly. When the final cut video hits RXMUSCLE.com in a few short weeks, you'll know what I mean when I say this guy is a big fish in the pond that he calls home.
Additionally, in a couple of days, Dave will release Trey's first "In the Iron Asylum" training video and you'll get a taste of how he does his business in the gym. If I may say so myself, it's some seriously hardcore arm training from a real professional gun slinger. Mid-workout, Trey peeled down to a cutoff shirt and Dave and I simultaneously looked at each other and mouthed the words, "Oh shit." Let me tell you, Dave sees a lot of bodybuilders, and those reactions don't come very often.
In the coming weeks, you'll all become big Trey fans and supporters, just as I did. You'll see the quiet confidence that makes Trey Brewer a very dangerous competitor!
