Just got back from the athlete's check-in at the Taj Mahal.
Some news:
Ran into Troy Alves right away. Troy feels good and is looking to make amends after last week in Montreal. He says he is tighter this time around and the pictures Terry Goodlad took last night that were posted on these forums are evidence of that.
Unfortunately Troy gave me bogus directions (unintentional, I know Troy) to the weigh-in room, which led me to walk in circles for the next five minutes. Ran into Chris Cormier on one of those circles. Chris says he is back up in the 255-258 range after a week of lying low in Jersey. A fuller, harder Cormier will be one to reckon with here.
Also, Chris has a better sense of direction than Troy (sorry Troy, but it's true -at least today), as his directions to the athlete's check-in room were spot on.
Lastly, ran into Marvelous Melvin Anthony on his way out. Despite numerous reports to the contrary, Melvin says he is on. Melvin promised to make me eat my words from Pro Bodybuilding Weekly, where I said he wouldn't be winning in AC. I told him if he did, I would go on the show and give him credit (Looks like you gotta have me on again if Melvin wins Dan and Bob).
On the women's side, our good friend Kris Gethin asked me to take a look at his girl, Marika Johannsen. Marika looks good, fuller than at the Europa and she should do well if she can just tighten up a bit before the women's prejudging tomorrow at noon.
Well, that is it for the pre-game guys. I will try to update the forums from the show, so look for commentary and callouts this evening.
