Gluconeogenesis is the formation of glucose from non carbohydrate sources. It is the only way other than carbohydrate ingestion to create glucose.
Glycerol is made available to gluconeogenesis through lipolysis. Amino acids are made available to gluconeogenesis from dietary intake and muscle catabolism.
Glutamine can be used to increase muscle glycogen storage following exhaustive exercise. A glucose polymer/glutamine combination will not increase muscle glycogen more than glucose polymer alone, but will increase whole body glycogen depostion (e.g. liver glycogen).
